My new bedroom set

I recieved a new headboard free from my boss last week. I was so excited because it was the size we needed (Full) and it was all real wood. Her father made it over 30 years ago and as much as she wanted to keep it for sentimental reasons she no longer had a use or space for it. She happy to know it was going to a good home where it would be appreciated. Paul was a little intimitated by it because it is a huge piece of furniture but on Saturday he finally tackled the project and put it together in our room. While he did that I went out and splurged and bought a new mattress and box spring. I was so excited to finally sleep on a new mattress. I should have pictures to upload soon.

I am so sorry I have not updated this more often, but between school and work I have very little time left and I try to spend that time with the family. I will try to do better.

Paul’s work

Paul had a great year at work this year. His was the only terminal in all of SNL to go the entire year without a chargeable accident. This is a huge accomplishment, especially considering how the year began with several small incidents back to back. Last yar was a bad year for safety with his terminal ending with a driver rolling a truck the last week of the year. So not only was Paul and the Savannah terminal recognized as the only terminal to have no chargeable accidents but he is also being awarded the most improved terminal award! (YEAH!!!!)

On a seperate note, Ashley woke up this morning with an ugly looking swollen eye. I was then woken  up by Paul saying he thought she had pink eye. An hour later we are sitting in the Dr. office to be told that it is not pink eye (thank goodness!!!) it is simply a stye that has gotten out of control and infected the skin around it. Since her teacher had already told me she was not missing any major work at school only watching the inauguration I figured she could do that from home. So home i where she stayed, she is of course taking full advantage of being home when she is not “really sick”. She did watch the president take the oath of office and when I came home from watching it at school we talked about it! Hopefully I will not get called into work tonight I will get the spend a rare, all be it cold, evening home with my family.

Tattoos!

First of all let me start by saying sorry. I will try and update you all on the big things that have happened. Most of you all know that Paul and I got tattoos in June 2006, the word Tybee on our right bicep. In November I added to my ink by getting a tattoo on my right foot, but as I was not very impressed with it once it healed I never posted a picture. I then met a great tattoo artist over Christmas and decided that for Mine and Paul’s 2 year anniversary we would add to our ink together again.

I only had minor touch up work done to my arm piece, so I’m not going to post it, but I will finally post my foot ink.

I am so much happier now that the colors are more vibrant and the line work is complete and the musical notes finish it off.

I also found out this week I am officially/sort of a college graduate. I will be walking at graduation in May. I do have 1 class I need to take in the mean time to complete my 30 credit hours in this college but otherwise I am done. I do have the department head of the Economics Department trying to talk me into continuing for my BA in Economics, then her idea is that I could continue for my masters in Education. I told her find me scholarships to help pay and I will seriously consider.

Ashley is doing great! She bought a guitar with her Christmas money and is now taking private lessons every week. She also loves to play Wii bowling with Paul. We bought a Wii for Christmas as a family present. I am work insane hours as a full time bartender at the local bowling center. The hours are crazy, I sleep very little, but the job is fun the tips are nice and Paul and Ash get a kick out of coming up to bowl a lot. I also still get the pleasure of taking Ash to school every morning and picking her up every afternoon, and even have time to go in an help in her class occasionally.

Well it’s 4:30 in the morning and Ash usually wakes me up about 10 a.m. so I better go try to get some sleep. I will try very hard to write more, especially since I now have a great new camera that takes awesome pictures (now that I figured out how to use the flash).

More Hookie!

I also have pictures of Ashley and her friend on Halloween. Since Paul had to work that night we were not able to set up our normal spectical here in the yard. Instead I allowed Ash to have her best friend over for the night. We went to the bowling alley and bowled a few games, the girls spent some time in the arcade, and we snacked on the food mom gets sick of cooking. It’s nice once and a while to go to the bowling alley and let someone else cook. Ashley was a monster bride, her friend JaVonna was a dark fairy, Paul was Bernie from Weekend at Bernie’s, but the best costume goes to my boos Moni who was the best witch I have seen in ages. The pictures just does not do her costume justice!

I’m playing hookie!

I decided to play hookie today in order to spend the day with Paul on his birthday and finally catch up on all the things I’ve had no time for. Like posting here! Okay, lets start with pictures of me with my new hair do. I am very curious to know what everyone thinks of the new style???

Sorry this took a while

Happy  Birthday

Ashley!!

These are some pictures from Ashley’s very exciting birthday party at Memorial Park. The party was a Halloween theme, with a bloodshot eyeball pinata, cemetary cake and witches brew punch. What a great party and a great day. Certainly not something we could do in Minnesota in October.

Ashley on the News!

Thursday was Constitution Day, a National celebration of the anniversary of the Constitution being ratified. Ashley’s school put on a program including Ashley’s class that sang a song to a rag time beat. Later in the day after the program the local news channel 3 came to school and spent time filming in Ashley’s class. Ashley’s class was making edible constitutions, and Ashley was filmed reciting the preamble from memory. She was the only one in her class able to recite it without help. I unfourtunatly do not have a link for the news story, I am however working on getting a copy for the tape.

First day of school pictures

Well I finally have a minute to post pictures of Ashley on the first day of school. We also picked up and drove one of her friends to school that day.

Back to School

Well last week Ashley started back to school. What a crazy week this has been. I am learning how to program in HTML, which right now I hate. I am taking an intro physics class with a lab which is not so bad right now, but everytime I start to read the text book I start to fall asleep. I guess I know how to get to sleep fast at night when I come home late from work! Micro-economics is smooth and easy, thank goodness for that.

Ashley is happy to be back to school. Her best friend since Kindergarden is in her class again this year and she got a great nice teacher. She is excited to try out for Odessey of the Mind this year and can’t wait to get started in gifted again. Last year she worked with a speech therapist occasionally to help her with her s’s. This the therapist said she sounds much better, but might still take her once and a while just cause she is so sweet and a great inspiration to the others. She is also looking forward to starting back to karate later this month.

I am working at the local bowling alley on the weekends in the snack bar and bar. Paul, Ashley and I all bowl several times a week. It is a great oppertunity for us to go out and have fun as a family. The bowling alley is also helping with the school PTA, with a company wide fundraiser as well as helping us work out a local fundraising league that parents, kids and teachers can all participate in to benifit the school and the kids.

I am heading up the PTA board in charge of fundraising and grant writing this year and I am excited to be involved again. I am still available to substitute teach several days a week, however this early in the year the teachers are happy and healthy, so not much need for substitutes yet. That fact doesn’t stop me from going and hanging out at the school however. I am also car-pooling to my school this year with one of Ashley’s friend’s mom.

Construction on the house has been on hold for a while now, but soon we are starting on replacing the roof. I’m sure some of you heard about the string of hurricanes that all seemed to have the Atlantic coast, and more specifically Savannah in their sights. We spent most of last week on standby waiting for work that we were evacuating. Fortunatly all of the storms took other paths and did not effect us more then some wind and some much needed rain. Here in Savannah we are still opperating at an almost 5″ rainfall deficit. So the rain is much needed and very much appreciated.

Now that Ashley is home and I have more to write about I will definatly update more often. I might even let her write a post once and a while.
