Happy New Year!
I have been a little lax in posting on a regular basis lately, but I am committed to trying harder this year. Especially since my generous little brother gave me a great gift for Christmas. Now I can blog from anywhere in the house or on campus at college or Ash’s school. This year, especially the next few months promise to be busy bordering on hectic which is just the way I love it! Paul is still working hard at his job and trying to hit every ball that is thrown at him, even the curve balls. As a matter of fact he is going into work at 1a.m. tonight to pull a load and then work i the office til about noon. Then he gets to come home for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary! We are going to spend some time as a family celebrating and then prolly go out for dinner just Paul and I.
This semester of college I am taking 12 credits and only at school on Tuesdays and Thursdays only, that leaves 3 days a week to volunteer or work at the school. I am still working towards getting my substitute teaching certificate. I love my school schedule because it means I get to still drive Ash to school 3 mornings a week and pick her up 5 afternoons a week. The 2 mornings I can’t drive her, either Paul or her friends mom will drive her. I won’t let her ride on a school bus in this town unless I’m driving it…. And that’s just not likely.
Christmas was fun and hectic, and Ashley was more then spoiled by everyone. I think every one forgets that she get the benefits of at least 3 different Christmas celebrations. So she has new toys coming from everywhere. She did get a few interesting gifts though; a book for Greek mythology is fun to listen to her read to herself, and a really cool pirate ship model that she gets to build with Paul. The thing about the ship model is it is part of the Pirateology set of books, which is part of a larger “ology” set of books including dragonology, wizardology and pirateology. So Paul and I decided to buy her the main Pirateology book that she could read before putting the ship together so she has a better understanding. She is so excited waiting for the book to arrive in the mail!
Ash is a reading machine! 53 books so far this year that she has read and had the opportunity to take accelerated reader tests on. She has also read many other books that have not had tests available for. She reads for 1-2 hours a day. Chapter books are still a mental struggle for her, she is capable of reading them, they just seem huge and almost impossible. We are getting through that 1 book at a time though, the trick has been finding books she enjoys, then she hardly notices all the pages she has read.
Well it is late here and I gotta get up and get ready for tomorrow in just a few hours. I hope everyone is keeping warm, I know we are certainly trying during this cold snap.
