The holidays are really here
Ashley’s flights have been booked, and arrangements have been made. Daniel’s flights have also been booked and that was not as easy as it sounds. He is technically able to fly as an adult with Airtran, but you can choose to still pay the fee and get the help. However unless we want to drive to and from Atlanta, we can’t do that because an unaccompanied minor can not fly on the last or only flight of the day.
So well all that has been figured out, and now I am in the final stretch of this semester of school. Final exams are this week, with papers due in each class.
Also I have been given the official title of volunteer coordinator at Ashley’s school. I spent Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in her school pretty much all day helping in classrooms, decorating the school, and just being useful. On Thursday the kids in the school who met their reading goals got to participate in colonial days. This was a series of events and games set up in the gym where the kids got to learn and play games about history. Ashley’s school being the only elementary school in the country to receive a special grant from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Colonial Days was a great success and, Surprise! a newspaper reporter was there and interviewed Ashley. Her quote and name appear in the Savannah Times news paper in Nov. 30th’s edition. The people from the grant foundation also showed up and very surprised by the events of the day and all of the work that was going on by parent volunteers.
Things are so busy around here I’m certainly glad I have most of my Christmas shopping done. Now I just have to work on the Christmas baking. I am helping with at least 3 different classroom holiday parties!
