I got the pleasure, for the first time, shopping for a birthday present for a kid I don’t know anything about. Ashley has been invited to her first friend birthday party this Saturday evening. Saturday is going to be a very long day for her. It is also the birthday celebration for Tybee Island with events and exhibits setup all day long. So we will be heading out to Tybee early in the morning, and her friends birthday party is from 5-7pm at Michael’s across town from our house. Well tomorrow is only a half day of school and she has a new friend moved in next door, so she should sleep well. We have also instituted no T.V. Monday thru Thursday. Ashley and I are both to be reading during our down time, Ashley will be recording her reading time in a log. This log of her reading time will then be used to “buy”, for lack of a better term, T.V. time on the weekends. One minute reading for 1 minute T.V. time, and computer is also restricted to educational games, and a few kid sites that Paul and I approve of and even enjoy helping with. She is free to play outside all she wants, or play in her room, or do crafts. I am trying to move both of us away from having to T.V. on all the time. It is not helpful for homework time, and she is trying to learn that it is okay to not have noise all the time.
