Open House
Last night was the PTA meeting and Open House at Ashley’s school. It was my turn to see her teachers, and several students from last year. I also got to meet Miss Long, the SEARCH teacher. SEARCH is what Chatham County calls it’s gifted program. Ashley and the other 1st grade SEARCH students leave their classrooms at 9:15 after morning announcements and walk all the way across the school to the 5th grade hall. This is where Miss Long’s classroom is and it is full of exciting supplies. There are blocks and puzzles, art supplies of every kind and amazing activities. If I had to go back to school this is the classroom I would want to be in. I talked to Miss Long and I offered to help anyway I can with class. We even talked about tessellations which is something I clearly remember learning as a young child.
While I was at the school I spoke with Miss Jenkins, the assistant principle. She is always out on the bus ramp loading and unloading the children from the buses. She saw me and said “there’s one of our favorite bus driver moms.” I politely explained that I am currently on leave from the bus company while I go back to school and I actually applied for the secretary job available at Islands. Miss Jenkins told me to go introduce myself to Miss Tylor the principle and tell her that I applied, so I did. Now she knows my face and my name so when she sees the application maybe she will remember me. This job is nothing crazy it is a part time office job, and the college classes I am taking are late afternoon are evening. I am crossing my fingers, and so is Ashley.
