Bus pick up

Today was the day that the bus drivers got to go into the office and get their bus assignments, clean their buses and get them ready for back to school, and take care of administrative stuff before school starts. The office was supposed to be open 8-12 and 1-2 to get bus assignments I went in by myself at 10am this morning. The entire office building reminded me of standing in line to bye Garth Brooks concert tickets back in ‘98 at the height of his popularity. There were mobs of people standing in what might have been lines if the we back in Kindergarten. Every hallway in the whole building was full of people in one line or another waiting to talk to someone or another, and no signs or direction about where to go, or where to start. I am finding as I grow older that my fears are getting stronger, and claustrophobia was taking control in that building today. So after about 5 minutes I turned around and walked out of the building with plans to return after lunch when hopefully things will have died down… alot.

Paul drove Ashley and I this time and I got back to the office a little after 1pm and the office was nearly empty, so my plan worked. I walked into the office where buses were being assigned, and was told that there was not a bus assigned to my route. So I stood there for close to 20 minutes while they figured out what bus to give me. Once I got a bus number Paul drove me out to the bus lot to find the bus, only it was no where to be found. I asked Paul to try the main lot, which is where we wound up finding the bus. I stepped onto the bus expecting to need to call a mechanic, turned to key, and low and behold it actually started! It is a 2000 all American flat-nose, which is not completely different then the 2004 bus I drove last year, but I must say that I will nt be happy in that bus for long. If I am still driving after the union vote I will approach the subject of a newer bus then.

I ran around the office finishing up the other administrative crap I had to do, then Ashley and I drove the bus to Savannah High, so it can park all night, and hopefully start up tomorrow when it is time for me to practice my route.
